Saudi Arabia is placing increasing attention on Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) as drone threats continue to affect critical infrastructure, energy facilities and sensitive locations across the region.

In September 2026, Saudi authorities reported several serious drone-related incidents. On September 10, multiple attacks affected the East–West Pipeline in the Riyadh and Madinah regions, prompting the Saudi Ministry of Energy to temporarily shut down the pipeline as a precaution while emergency and technical teams secured the facility.

Only days later, on September 15, 2026, Saudi authorities reported that a hostile UAV was launched toward Makkah. The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces intercepted and destroyed the drone before it entered the restricted airspace of the holy city.
